Co-Op Community Fund

After our year on the Co-op community fund, we would like to announce that we have received over £1600; this will be used to purchase tools and safety equipment for use in our activities to help us provide Skills for Life.

Here are a few of our members taking part in the celebrations which were held at Warsop Co-op on 1st November 2022.

We would like to thank everyone who shops at the Co-op and chose us as their local cause.

Black Country Living Museum

On 2 July 2022 our Beavers, Cubs and Scouts, accompanied by leaders and group supporters, visited the Black Country Living Museum. Everyone had a great day and we’d like to thank the #ArnoldClarkCommunityFund for their support in making this happen. Here’s a look at what they got up to during their visit.

Climbing & Hillwalking

On 15th May 2022 a party of 10 Scouts accompanied by 3 leaders headed up to Burbage Rocks in the Peak District for a day of climbing and hillwalking under the tutelage of Nottinghamshire Scouts Adventure.

The group spent the morning climbing which everyone thoroughly enjoyed. This was the first time most has climbed on rocks, as opposed to a climbing wall, and they all agreed it was a different experience. The afternoon was spent on a short circular route which around Higger Tor.

Paddle Sports

Tonight 2nd Warsop Scouts have been at the Nottinghamshire Scouts Hoveringham Activity Centre to take part in a paddle sports taster session.  For many this was the first time they had had the chance to take to the water and try canoeing and kayaking and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves. They’re now looking forward to trying out sailing later in the year.

Promise Renewal

The Scout Promise is a simple way to help young people and adults celebrate their shared Scout values. Every Scout promises to stick by these values when they become a member. It’s important that every member has the chance to think about their Promise, and chat through its meaning, before they make their Promise for the first time during a special ceremony we call an Investiture. Ever year around the time of St George’s Day we renew our promise to remind ourselves of these shared values. Tonight members of 2nd Warsop Scout Troop renewed their promise during their weekly meeting.

Scouts’ Local Walk

Last Wednesday evening troop numbers were low due to people being away for the Easter holidays, so we set the challenge of walking a circular 4 mile route in the local area. Scouts were given grid references for a series of checkpoints and then plotted the route they needed to walk to get to them. Although all within a two mile radius of our usual meeting place, some of our members had not previously walked the paths we used so they did really well to cover the amount of ground they did.

Straightening the Beacon

We were recently asked whether we would be able to do anything to straighten the beacon in the Parish Centre car park as it is planned to light it as part of the celebrations to mark Her Majesty the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in June 2022.

Following a quick assessment of what was required a small group spent our meeting on Wednesday 6 April digging out and replanting the beacon which now stands straight and true. Well done team!

Spring Camp

Over the weekend of 26-27 March, members of the troop took part in an overnight camp at the Robin Hood Activity Centre near Blidworth. For many who took part this was their first experience of camping as a Scout and everyone did very well to quickly learn the the skills required to set up camp and to fend for themselves.
